A selection of images from “Personas” — the most recent project by Nashville, Tennessee-based photographer Elijah Barrett. Through the large-scale black and white portraits, he explores his interest in what he describes as “playfully confusing the notions of subject and photographer, the scene and the behind-the-scenes, realism and self-consciousness, coolness and affect, as well as past and present.” Barrett studied photography at Yale University and the University of Hartford, and his work has been the subject of solo exhibitions at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte, the San Angelo Museum of Fine Art (San Angelo, TX), and Spellerberg Projects (Lockhart, TX).
