Artist Spotlight: Vickie Vainionpää

A selection of recent work by Canadian artist Vickie Vainionpää, whose practice explores the impact of technology and digitization in relation to the process of painting. Vainionpää uses generative 3D modelling software to algorithmically produce shapes and colours, before painting by hand using oil on canvas. The images feel simultaneously organic and artificial, playfully blurring the line between the human and the machine.

“FLOW_STATE” is Vainionpää’s first solo exhibition in Europe, and is on display at Galleria Nicola Pedana in Caserta, Italy, until December 5.
