A selection of paintings by self-taught Nigerian artist Ekene Stanley Emecheta. Living and working in Abuja, Nigeria, Emecheta’s figurative paintings are rendered with oil and acrylic paints on canvas. “My recent works focus more on human energy, personality, and identity,” he explains. “I portray figures mostly of African descent with intentional elimination of skin color, drawing the viewer’s focus to the figure itself, how they dress, what they are doing, who they really are, their impact, and so on.”
