Andrew James McKay is a Vancouver-based painter and printmaker. His work is, generally-speaking, about the relationship of the individual to the group and the constituent part to the whole. Recent projects include a study of portraiture seen through the lens of varied globalized production methods, and a series of paintings and drawings to do with the perseverance of the ‘missing’ poster in a culture where a more advanced technology could have easily supplanted it. Future projects include a body of work related to the artist’s time as a house painter, and a large-scale examination of facial recognition and law enforcement technologies and how these are impacting portraiture as a genre.
