Taj Reed is a narrative photographer based in his hometown in Southern Maryland’s semi-rural fringe, just outside of Washington D.C. Reed found his way to photography in 2017, drawn to its communicative and investigative potential. Pivoting from a career in advertising and production, he dedicated himself wholly to image-making, and he is currently pursuing a self-designed B.A. in Art, Literature, and Human Behavior at St. Mary’s College of Maryland. His work relies heavily on black literary tradition, memory, and cultural subtext as vehicles for reckoning with identity, history, and his fraught relationship with American institutions.
