Artist Spotlight: Simona Ruscheva

A dynamic series exploring the idea of what it means to be galactic beings by London-based artist Simona Ruscheva. Continuing to pursue the aesthetics of her Fire series, Ruscheva’s Galactic series features warm glazes with burning background hues. Reminiscent of a phoenix rising from the ashes, these paintings explore the life cycle of birth, death, and re-birth. As she explains further:

“We all possess the ability to see beyond the physical matter if we turn to ourselves and see our inner universe. I am using a glittery and textured black paint for the body as it reminds me of a galaxy, which emphasizes my idea visually. The geometric design around the background is inspired by a folk costume from North Macedonia, which again symbolizes multiple incarnations.”
