Mateusz Kowalik is a visual storyteller based in Warsaw, Poland. His practice centers on issues of contemporary society, most recently exploring the Polish wilderness and those who live in close relationship with nature in his series, “Devil’s Rib.”
“Most of my characters are united by the desire for a better life without a lot of stimuli, overexploitation of the planet, and constant consumerism, but this journey is full of sacrifices,” he explains. “However, my goal is not to convince people of this lifestyle. My only wish is that each of us stop for a moment on this story and ask ourselves if maybe there is something that we can learn from this approach to life.”
