A selection of recent work by Saigon, Vietnam-based artist Mai Ta (previously featured here). Often mounted on wood board, Ta’s small, intimate gouache paintings depict the inner world she seeks to reconcile with—inner wounds, secrets, memories—all sublimated into her own symbols and manifested on paper.

Ta seeks to find truth in her feelings and honor them through the act of painting. To her, art is a place where she can safely express herself without guilt. “Artistic expression is a form of freedom,” she says.
