“Velleity” by Photographer Yiyun Chen

An experimental installation by Cleveland, Ohio-based photographer Yiyun Chen. Presented along rows of shelves on the gallery wall together with a companion photobook, “Velleity” explores the process of self-reflection and self-discovery. The meditative project is the result of a personal exercise — walking and photographing — repurposed into an installation piece:

“It visualizes the experience of a person navigating different cultures, social expectations, realities, and ponders my displacement in the past and present, leading to moments of isolation and a struggle to communicate. The photobook, with its ordered images and textual references, develops the concept of the images and text as a coded language to describe the seemingly unexceptional moments of everyday life.”
