Artist Spotlight: Justin Wheatley

Salt Lake City, Utah-based artist Justin Wheatley captures the nostalgic spirit of American suburbia with his paintings. Describing them as “portraits of houses that have stories to tell,” Wheatley finds beauty in the neighborhoods he has lived in. “Suburbia is such an interesting place,” he says. “There are people who are constantly keeping up with each other, those who couldn’t care less, and those that you wonder if they even exist.” As a teacher at an alternative school in Salt Lake City, Wheatley often finds himself in conversations about suburban culture, which only add to his intrigue. He hopes his portraits do the same for the viewer.
