Artist Spotlight: Alexandra Smith

A selection of recent paintings by Brooklyn, New York-based artist Alexandra Smith. Centered around intimacy, Smith’s paintings offer glimpses into her romantic relationships, carnal desires, and platonic friendships. They encompass her gaze, longing for connection, and search for vulnerability.

“These works are hedonistic daydreams and recollections,” she explains. “Through memory and photographic references, I highlight moments of touch and desire which frequently go overlooked. I want to slow time and linger on these fleeting instances. . . I am engrossed in depicting the multifaceted aspects of intimacy—the romantic, seductive, awkward, lonely, and quiet moments. While these paintings evoke distinct memories for me, they also strike on universal motifs.”
