Artist Spotlight: Lauren Clay

A selection of recent drawings by New York-based multidisciplinary artist Lauren Clay. Working primarily in sculpture and installation, Clay’s drawings go hand in hand with her 3D work, serving as both studies and stand-alone creations. Referencing dreams, esoteric texts, and mythology, she uses illusion and forced perspective to create objects and spaces that are physically disorienting, mirroring our relationship to our personal unconscious. Like with her sculptures and installations, the viewer can only enter within the mind’s eye—“these are invitations for the viewer to look inward, and to complete, on their own, the scene which lies just past the threshold of the images presented.”
