Artist Spotlight: Laurent Proux

A selection of recent paintings by Paris-based artist Laurent Proux. Seeking to resolve the questions raised by his subjects, Proux’s vibrant paintings feature a range of imagery, from industrial machinery to workstations, sexualized bodies, and beyond, finding balance between contradictory elements. He approaches the human form with fragments, exaggeration, and the use of silhouettes, using his canvases to create a stage on which he composes fictional scenes, addressing the viewer with “a visual and intellectual enigma running through the image.”
