“Little Cities” by Photographer Rich-Joseph Facun

Set against a backdrop of post-industrial Southeastern Ohio, photographer Rich-Joseph Facun’s second monograph, “Little Cities” (Little Oak.PRESS, 2023), is a quiet and meditative portrait of place, and the ways in which cultural forces shape our relationship to the land. This project is a continued exploration of the Appalachian region where Facun’s first monograph, “Black Diamonds,” was made. Searching for lingering evidence of the Indigenous communities who once called this region home, “Little Cities” reminds us that the landscape contains memory, and bears witness to our misdeeds.
