“you gave me everything” by Artist Crystal Liu

A selection of new paintings by Chinese-Canadian artist Crystal Liu (previously featured here). Born in Toronto and currently based in California, Liu uses landscape as a metaphor for the intangible forces that drive us as human beings. Liu draws inspiration from her daily life, relationships, and general curiosity toward human emotion and the natural world. Much of  Liu’s recent work has involved grappling with the sudden loss of her father who passed away at the beginning of the.

Taking comfort in nature — with flowers, in particular, becoming a source of healing and hope — “you gave me everything” is an extension of Liu’s garden cosmos as well as her studies in floral arrangement, still life, and Chinese rockery. Lily of the valley, asters, chamomile, cosmos and quince make their debut in this series which explores the theme of what it is to be loved unconditionally by someone, and how that person shapes us. See more images below or on display at Galerie du Monde in Hong Kong until June 3rd.
