“Sticks and Stones” by Photographer Kitt Woodland

A visual exploration of a familiar adage by photographer Kitt Woodland. Raised in the prairies and now based in Vancouver, Woodland’s images often contain a pensive quality as she often pulls from past experiences. The full title of this project is “Sticks and Stones … may break my bones, but words will absolutely destroy me.” The photographs are intended to draw attention to the new cultural awareness that words do have a significant impact. Internal or unseen fractures can be caused by verbal statements. This is represented by the careful arrangements of smooth stones and curled branches; “temporary structures on the brink of falling apart.” See more below.
