Illustrator Spotlight: Firpal

London-based artist Firpal creates Indo-futurist speculative fiction through writing and illustration. Drawing fantastical, cartoonist spectacles in the “South Asian unknown,” Firpal describes their work as “plush, chimeric dramedy.” Their visual style builds on traditional Kalighat, Thangka and Mughal miniature painting styles and Indian folklore. Having worked primarily as an illustrator for publications, designers and arts institutions, Firpal is currently working on their debut comic within the genre of South Asian science fiction. The project will mark their debut as a comic writer.
