Photographer Spotlight: Alana Paterson

A study dedicated to the most divisive of our feline friends by Vancouver-based photographer Alana Paterson. Raised in the Gulf islands, Paterson discovered photography by way of skateboarding in the 90s. She attended Emily Carr University and The Art Institute of Boston and has worked with outlets like The New York Times, The Atlantic, and TIME as well as clients including Apple, Nike, and Arc’teryx. Of this series, Paterson states: “Some people fall in love, some people get the ick, but everyone has a reaction.”

Alana Paterson participated in our 2025 Booooooom Art & Photo Book Award and made our shortlist.
