A collection of images shot by the shores of the Adriatic Sea by Italian photographer Alice Angelini. For Angelini, this is a place where locals and tourists alike adapt to a slower rhythm during the warmest season. “Water Creatures” is a project driven by a sense of curiosity for what is unknown. It contemplates this particular time and place as a state of being, a setting in which “humans return to an elemental shape”:
“here, every grain of sand, rock or ship becomes a spot to rest, ponder, and be without performance. In these quiet observations, I trace the similarities between people who surrender to the warm rays, capturing how their shimmering bodies echo one another unintentionally. Each year, summer anchored me to my hometown and childhood memories. In the constant setting of the beach, I photograph strangers to mirror my own self-growth as I return to these familiar places as a passerby.”
