A selection of work by Melbourne-based artist Jackson Howell aka beachghost. Drawing from an upbringing immersed in nature along the Victorian coast as well as an intense appetite for film, video games, and anime, beachghost’s work explores the intersections of pop culture and mythology, creating imagery that feel both familiar and unsettling. He invites viewers to revisit the stories of their youth, distorting nostalgic memories and reimagining them with a quiet unease. Dark, evocative themes are combined with immersive worlds inhabited by surreal creatures and transforming figures. Whether deconstructing familiar pop-culture iconography or conjuring entirely new characters from his own inner world, beachghost crafts visual narratives that invite viewers into scenes that blur the boundaries between imagination and memory.
