Illustrator Spotlight: Kristina Tzekova

A selection of work from illustrator Kristina Tzekova. Tzekova holds a Master’s degree in Comics from erg (École de Recherche Graphique) in Brussels. Her practice involves a meticulous decomposition of fleeting fragments—sourced from cinema and online media—which she re-renders into sequential, contemplative drawings. Through the deliberate pace of coloured pencils, she translates insignificant gestures into sharp yet delicate visual forms. While her work has gained international recognition through collaborations with clients like The New York Times, The New Yorker, and Tiffany & Co., her core research remains a study of the fragile boundary between contemporary media and a sense of tender, melancholic belonging.

“My drawing practice revolves around capturing quiet, ephemeral moments found in films, music videos, and internet culture. By creating these small sequential panels, I seek to stretch these moments to their limit, aiming to slow time down and reveal a soft, meditative beauty within the digital ephemeral.”
