Artist Spotlight: Damion Silver

A selection of playful sculptures by artist Damion Silver, originally from Connecticut and based in New Hampshire. Silver’s practice spans printmaking, assemblage, and sculpture, and both his art and design work have been exhibited and published throughout the U.S., Europe, and Japan.

This body of work emerged while Silver was developing new ideas for an exhibition. At the time, he was experimenting with steam-bending plywood and rattan, achieving some success but falling short of the complex forms he envisioned.

The breakthrough came from an unexpected source: a stack of old broken skateboards sitting in the corner of his woodshop. Revisiting a sketchbook filled with rough ideas, he began cutting the first pieces on the bandsaw. The skateboards themselves dictated the color palette. Rather than selecting colors, Silver embraced the existing stains and finishes of the discarded decks, allowing the material to determine the visual outcome.

Intuitive and spontaneous, the series echoes Silver’s lifelong relationship with skateboarding.
