Submission Painting

無 (Nothingness) and 有 (Being)

Nothingness and Being began as two paintings developed in relation to one another. Drawing from the Chinese characters 無 and 有, they explore absence and presence not simply as opposites, but as states that shape each other. The characters are abstracted into visual forms rather than presented as readable text. Differences in scale, colour and composition allow each painting to stand alone while changing how the other is read. This pair marks the starting point of a new body of work exploring connected inner states through paired paintings.
