A photographic series about life, told through death.
Told across six chapters, the series begins during Día de Muertos at the cemetery in Mixquic, Mexico City, inspired by the belief that the human soul weighs 21 grams. But where do those 21 grams go when we die?
Surrounded by smoke and flowers I realized that instead of photographing death, I was capturing life.
Through photography and poetry I explore light, memory, absence, and the ways we live on, wondering whether we continue to exist in the memories of those who love us.
I don't know where we go when we're gone, but I like to believe that the 21 grams of those we've lost now live within us.
Perhaps memory is another form of life.
