A City of Goals explores football and boxing as spaces of aspiration, discipline and belonging among young people in Warri, Nigeria, and Jamestown, Ghana. The project began after I reconnected with friends from childhood, many of whom I found still spending their time on the same pitches where we once played. It led me to look more closely at the role sport continues to play in young lives shaped by difficult economic realities.

The photographs move between play, competition and quieter moments around the pitch and boxing gym. I am interested in the energy and discipline within these spaces, but also in what sport offers beyond the game itself: a place to belong, pursue something they love, and hold onto the possibility of something better.
