Alice Garik works in “Vital Impetus”

In the works of Alice Garik, the human body is explored as a site for construction and
communication of identity. For her, tattoos are vehicles for merging our human experiences with the larger world. By culling images from mythology, artifacts, naturalism, human bodies, and by reconfiguring images from photo negatives, her work explores the vital connections between self and other.
Based in Brooklyn, Garik's work is in the collections of The Brooklyn Museum, The
New York Public Library, and The Polaroid Collection among others. Additionally, pieces from her current series were exhibited in 2017 in Tattooed New-York
at The New-York Historical Society. In 2020 Alice exhibited in an online exhibit
with with the Berlin Collectiv and in Naturatis in 2021.
