American Landscapes

Years ago, we used to drive across parts of America and were witness to a wide range of social and economic inequalities, etc... I think thats where this originated but eventually we started looking at our photography as a way to provide social commentary on social, political and economic issues. Our background in advertising seemed a natural fit to question the ethos of contemporary culture and we created these images in much the same manner as we would an ad campaign. We often reference Art History, Americana and Mother Goose to create an amalgamated fairytale of an American landscape. The settings are lush with an idyllic veneer and we playfully shift back and forth between whimsical and cautionary. The images are rich in symbolism and are a response to contemporary culture, and the trajectory of society.
