Animals in Rooms is an ongoing series by Australian artist Jennifer Malone, working as Magic Coco.

Using watercolour and gouache on paper, Malone places serious, expressive animals inside richly coloured, slightly wonky imagined interiors. The rooms operate as portraits too: architecture, furniture, colour and strange paintings-within-paintings build a psychological world around each animal.

Scale slips, perspective misbehaves and art collections appear to have histories of their own. The spaces can be elegant, absurd, intimate or improbable, but the animal remains the most important presence in the room.
