Anthropocene

Anthropocene

In this series of oil paintings, I’m imagining a future geology. The rocks are samples extracted from The Anthropocene epoch.

Each painting is displayed alongside“research data” that takes the form of core samples or acid test strips. Different color striations in the samples represent different events in geological and environmental history: the bright orange of a nuclear test, the first record of lapis lazuli mining in Afghanistan…the color evolution of moths during the Industrial Revolution.

This project will be exhibited in Denver and Boston in 2018. Images from this series are also included in my book project: The International Journal of Experimental Geology (see the final image).
