Sarah Leuchtner is a Chicago and Maine-based contemporary artist working in painting, drawing and large-scale collage. These large-scale collage works create a juxtaposition of painterly mark-making within a cut lattice structure; investigating hard versus soft, and architecture versus poetry. Leuchtner embraces the characteristics conceptually and materially of what she is visually interpreting each day within her surroundings and studio. She draws inspiration through shape, composition, patterning and material. Her collages undulate between abstraction and representation, creating depictions and nods to landscape, maps, and personal imagery. Leuchtner utilizes an archive of her works on paper to create these pieces. Combining past and present as she collages these works aligns with her interest in archives and history.
