A person I once supported through art therapy asked, “What if the world forgets everything I went through once I heal?”
I reminded them that healing is learning to separate our worth from the actions of others, to turn our losses into lessons, and to forgive ourselves for the ways we survived.
Perhaps it doesn't matter if the world forgets our pain. There is something cynically beautiful about having felt so much, so intensely, and still choosing to begin again.
Someday, when your soul returns to the universe, I hope your brain is full of happy chemicals and your heart is less tired than it used to be.
