Blue Horse & Clouded Leopard
These two paper collages explore the tension between cultural symbols and individual freedom.
In Central Asia, paintings of horses are traditionally given as gifts associated with status and honor. But I began with a different question: does the horse actually want to be given away?
Blue Horse resists becoming a symbol of someone else's prestige. Its counterpart, Clouded Leopard, embodies a form of female strength that refuses to be harmless or accommodating.
The diptych captures the moment when something untamed pushes against the roles and expectations imposed upon it, reclaiming the freedom to remain independent, unpredictable, and entirely itself.
