Food has always been a big influence in my life. I learned how to cook at a young age, and somewhere in that early relationship with ingredients, texture, and transformation, I began to understand that food is much more than what we can see. It is memory, identity, and ritual. It is the thing cultures organize themselves around without ever quite realizing it.
I have always been drawn to the way food drives culture — the way what we eat, what we celebrate with, and what we consider a treat says something deep and strange about who we are. I find myself wondering how future cultures will look back at ours: what they will make of what we valued, what we consumed, what we turned into monuments. My paintings are an attempt to answer that question visually.
