Submission Sculpture

Cam James Fox

My sculptures are parts of my body that exist just outside of myself. Memory becomes a tangible material in my work, something that I can imbue or reject. I view humor as a tool to dismantle and reconstruct my queer identity; a 2x4 becomes a stage where plastic gemstones and scrap combine to create forms that are halfhearted performers at best. I yearn to understand how our bodies interact with objects and the magic that arises from these encounters. Through the act of creating, I am investigating rigid material and the handmade. By distilling subjects to find their material essence, I investigate inner mythologies and unnamed energies. Pieces of a whole assemble together, as if the work is in its own process of remembering, remaking, and transformation.
