Cold Water is a series of digital works created in response to Russia’s destruction of the Kakhovka Dam during its war against Ukraine. The series began with news footage of the resulting disaster: flooded landscapes and homes, and the loss of human life.
The title evokes a state of emotional numbness—witnessing a catastrophe while feeling powerless to intervene. Through empty space and abstract depictions of water, the works convey the helplessness and sense of absence that follow destruction. The viewer is held in a moment of loss, without the promise of renewal.
