Inspired by the atmosphere created by the metal band Death in their song "Cosmic Sea", this piece was created to show how beauty can be found in the face of danger. The song is reminiscent of an ocean, starting out peaceful and building into a spontaneous storm. I aimed to utilize a contrast in the scale between the characters on the boat and the sea engulfing them to capture the unpredictable power nature has against humanity. Graphic elements such as hatching and saturated colors were utilized to create a fantastical energy in which the two figures are caught in.
