Coyote Woman

Women’s mental states and experiences frequently occur in my work. The liberated woman is often looked down upon in society. She’s perceived as a threat, as the embodiment of Eve, reckless, shunning the patriarchal systems imposed upon her mind, position, and body. Coyote Woman represents the free person inside of all women, a woman born without the systemic impositions of the male gaze. She isn’t Odalisque, the untouchable yet desirable Aphrodite, nor is she the reflection of classical beauty pointed out to us as inciting the male gaze in a Barbara Kruger graphic. Instead, Coyote Woman is of her own making and acknowledgment, and her natural authority guides her path. She appears in multiple pieces, including a series called Coyote Woman Affirmations and a soft sculpture titled Coyote Mask.
