These pieces are social commentary on feminism, American identity, and the future. They’re my way of dealing with all the dread I’ve been feeling about the world. I’ve been making collages since I was a kid, covering my bedroom walls with pages cut from my mother’s fashion magazines. I’m still drawn to collage because it’s so tactile: I cut up media and advertising visuals and turn them into something totally new. I’ve also included pieces about childhood innocence and love, the things worth holding onto even in the dread. I try to deliver the commentary with a wink, because humor is how I get through heavy stuff.
