Embroidered Photography- Bridges: St. Louis 1904 to Today

My process involves hand stitching thread directly into photographs as a way of drawing. I primarily work with black and white photographs and bright colored threads. The
photography brings a sense of realism and reality to the work, while the stitched thread creates the whimsy of making the invisible tangible.
"Bridges" is my most recent body of work. In previous series, the thread has represented invisible forces such as creativity, imagination, and thoughts. However, in this series, the thread stitched into each photograph acts as elements of spirit, life, and delight that aim to bridge the gap between eras.
I took half of the photographs in this series, and the other half I partnered with the Missouri History Museum to gain permission to use.
