This body of work features observations from my day-to-day life in the Midwestern United States, an often under-reported region. Midwestern homes, landscapes and city scenes are depicted amidst the legacy of industrialism and the looming future of technical modernization. Each painting hesitates to draw conclusions, but rather seeks to represent what life is like here -- in all of its absurdity and eccentricities. Surrealist iconography and motifs from popular culture are contrasted against this backdrop in order to paint a much fuller picture. This body of work depicts an environment that is grappling with questions of nostalgia, tension, and an uncertain future.
