Faces. is a series of paintings that use particular accessories of the face and head (both permanent and impermanent) to reference self-portraiture. The sometimes bare, monochromatic backgrounds provide a setting where the components of the painting float in the space, but still hold structure. By stripping away certain elements that are usually included in a portrait it forces the viewer to fill in the blanks and make assumptions about who is being portrayed. This can range from presumptions regarding race, personality, beliefs, etc. and allows for the creation of a narrative out of very minimal information.
