Facing Sound is a series of paintings I created based on a feeling. At first, it was me listening to music and writing words, images, and other things with spray paint, creating this beautiful graffiti mix of colors and shapes. From there, I layered different textures of paint and started defining actual shapes out of the random spray-painted lines. When I took a step back, the painting felt like it was missing something. I then took materials and created these dense lines, bouncing off of shapes, creating motion, and allowing the painting to come alive. At first, it felt like I was defining rules that I had to stick with. As I continued, I remembered that this was something I created in my mind. I was the one who created the rules.
