Field Notes: Platypus began with a platypus sighting during fieldwork in regional Queensland. I wanted to translate that brief encounter into something playful and graphic, using simplified forms, hand-drawn textures and repeated lines to capture the movement of the water and surrounding vegetation. The colour palette came from experimenting with combinations from A Dictionary of Color Combinations, shifting the natural observation into something more stylised and unexpected. The piece sits somewhere between a field note and a slightly overexcited memory of seeing a platypus in the wild.
