I'm Maria, a Toronto-based illustrator whose work draws on Slavic folklore and explores emotions and relationships through visual storytelling.

This selection brings together reimagined folklore creatures and personal explorations of sadness, change and connection. I'm particularly drawn to the contrast between the fantastical and the familiar, imagining otherworldly creatures navigating emotions, relationships and everyday experiences that feel distinctly human.
