Foreign Foraging | An environmental (hi)story

“As I take what I find,
I work with what the sea spits out.”

Foreign Foraging is an environmental (hi)story based on the factual prediction that by 2050 there will be more plastic than fish in the world’s Oceans.
It features two handwoven tapestries made of recycled fishing nets, embroidered with abstract and figurative arrangements of collected pieces of sea plastic. Accompanied by the spoken poem I am a forager it portrays a forager – a character acutely attuned to the materials and resources available in his/her surrounding – as well as it tells the story of transformation: Our Oceans turn from food source to material source.
What does the hunter-gatherer hunt and gather in an increasingly man-made nature?
