My woodblock prints explore sensations that arise through encounters with nature, before they take the form of words. Standing among rustling leaves and shifting sunlight, I sometimes feel time dissolve and the boundaries of my self fade. I wonder whether people thousands of years ago felt the same wind and saw the same light.
Drawing on memories of places I have visited, I combine photographs with elements of myth, folklore, and history to create imagined landscapes. I carve images across multiple woodblocks, join them together, and print on Japanese washi paper, creating works larger than my own body.
Through these works, I hope to evoke a quiet sense of connection across time.
