‘I Have No Name’ Series

I like details. Love details. Stippling and hatching are magnificent at providing the kind of detail that gives a form texture from a distance. And when you move in closer to view the composition you find tiny lines and tiny dots making up those details. Details that are fine down to the smallest part.

I wanted to occupy a space with detail that is typically filled with strokes or drips. I aimed to make a space that was small and resolute. Because sometimes I find nothing more abstract than the details.

After rendering hard lined shapes and fine lined forms I wanted to add color but have it be free. I opted for watercolor and gouache so I could add a transparent layer over the forms. As though they were layered but not limited by one another, like a shadow cast through blinds.
