Ilás de Oxalá (Hope) is a multidisciplinary project created by queer immigrant artist Paulo Fraval, intersecting photography, cinema, and live performance.
At its core is Alana Carvalho, a trans woman, quilombola, and Candomblé leader in Salvador, Bahia. Facing high violence against LGBTQIAPN+ people, her journey affirms existence, ancestry, and collective care. Arising from Fraval’s inquiries on displacement and identity, the project highlights how Afro-Brazilian traditions offer sacred spaces of belonging for LGBTQIAPN+ lives.
Directed by Edson Bastos and Henrique Filho (Voo) with a 100% LGBTQIAPN+ team, this series features music by Fraval and poetry by Almerson Cerqueira.
