In 2025, I confronted my complex relationship with womanhood and my fear of motherhood, a subconscious choice, as three months later I became pregnant. Raised by a full-time mother with the mantra “be independent,” I grew up idealizing masculinity and measuring worth by career, as if motherhood weren’t one of the most meaningful jobs of all. In the process, I erased women, starting with myself. In this visual dialogue, my mother Raffaella becomes a LIVING FRAME I return in search of answers. What if she had been told “be independent” instead of “marry as a virgin”? How much of our destiny is shaped by the mantras we inherit? Through memory and visual apparitions, I investigate female identity. My mother’s intimate experience becomes the key to reimagining the way I see myself and other women.
