Submission Painting

Margo’s Pond

I am a painter creating a flourishing ecosystem for sapphic omnipotence through coded language. I predominantly work with cutting wood into shapes from sketches, airbrushing the background, and oil painting the foreground. The Venus flytrap has become a symbol in my paintings of commitment to the truth in queer identity despite familial constraints. The repetition of this plant is a ritual embracing sapphic narratives. The green girl is a character named Margo, who brings the anxiety of sexuality to human-form. Lace Lady is Margo’s lover, who embodies peace found in queer love. My lace flies identify the romanticization of undesirability. I pay homage to queer history full of coded signals for survival by painting my own fantastical coded language. I paint in codes to remain safe in my own familial settings.
